When commenting on the recent mainland trip by Taiwan internet celebrity "Kuan Chang" (Chen Chih-han), Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said on Wednesday that for a long time, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities and pro-DPP politicians have been manipulating anti-mainland sentiments, attempting to block the channels through which compatriots in the island of Taiwan can understand the true situation in the mainland, thereby misleading Taiwan society and the public's perception of the mainland.
"As more and more Taiwanese compatriots visit the mainland, share their experiences and witness the reality for themselves, the lies fabricated by the DPP authorities are being exposed one by one, and the 'information bubble' they created is collapsing," Zhu stated at a press briefing.
Chen traveled to the mainland from June 10 to 15 and, during his livestreamings, repeatedly urged people in Taiwan to visit the mainland in person and expose the lies of the DPP authorities. Chen faced attacks from pro-DPP politicians and online trolls. Some commentators in Taiwan have noted that after "Kuan Chang" live-streamed from the mainland, many young people on the island began to change their prejudices against the mainland, according to a reporter from Beijing Daily at the press briefing.
"We have noticed that an increasing number of Taiwanese compatriots, especially young people, are actively breaking through the carefully constructed information barriers set up by the DPP authorities." Zhu said. They are using various means to learn about the mainland and discover a "different mainland." "We welcome and look forward to Taiwan compatriots visiting various destinations in the mainland and adding high-quality products from the mainland to their shopping carts," Zhu said.
"The deeper the exchanges, the more they will come to appreciate the mainland's beautiful landscapes, abundant resources, and its admirable people. The more they visit, the closer our hearts will become," Zhu said.
