When asked whether the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) will conduct counter-military exercises as it has in the past after Lai Ching-te claimed that Taiwan will continue to strengthen its defense as preparing for war is best way to avoid it, Zhang Xiaogang, a spokesperson from China's Ministry of National Defense, said on Thursday that as long as Lai's separatist acts continue, there will be no peace across the Taiwan Straits or for the compatriots in Taiwan.
He warned the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities that pursuing "Taiwan independence" will never end well.
The PLA maintains a combat-ready posture, continues to strengthen military training and preparedness, and is firmly determined to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, he added.
