The Chinese mainland strongly condemned the recent remarks by Taiwan regional leader Lai Ching-te, who referred to the mainland as a "hostile external force" under the island's so-called anti-infiltration act during a media interview.
In response, Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, criticized Lai for clinging to separatist views, inciting cross-Straits confrontation, and creating a climate of fear and suppression in Taiwan.
Chen said Lai's rhetoric and actions not only deepen divisions between the two sides but also push Taiwan closer to a dangerous situation of potential conflict, leaving the public anxious and uncertain.
Chen reiterated that Taiwan's future lies in national reunification and the well-being of its people depends on the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Only by promoting peaceful cross-Straits development and working toward reunification can lasting peace and stability be achieved in the Taiwan Straits — ensuring the prosperity and security of the island's residents, Chen said.
