Taipei, Jan. 7 (CNA) The Ministry of National Defense (MND) on Tuesday said a satellite launched by China that flew over Taiwan posed no threat given its altitude.

In a news release, the MND said the satellite was launched at 4 a.m. Tuesday from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center (XSLC), also known as the Xichang Space Center, in China's Sichuan Province.

The satellite flew over Taiwan and towards the west of the Pacific Ocean, the MND added.

However, as the satellite flew beyond the Earth's atmosphere, the ministry said the launch posed no threat to Taiwan.

The MND added that it will continue to monitor threats and "remain ready to respond" should any arise.
