Taipei, June 21 (CNA) A fleet led by a Chinese aircraft carrier and consisting of an unspecified number of ships transited through the Taiwan Strait on Wednesday, according to Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND).
The fleet, led by the aircraft carrier Shandong, was sailing in a southwesterly direction, MND spokesman Major General Sun Li-fang (孫立方) said at a news conference in Taipei, without specifying the time when the transit took place.
The military closely monitored airspace and waters around Taiwan through its joint intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance system, Sun said.
It also deployed an appropriate amount of military assets in responding to the situation, he said.
