Taipei, Aug. 21(CNA) Indiana Governor Eric J. Holcomb arrived in Taiwan on Sunday for a four-day visit, making him the first governor from the United States to visit the country since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced Sunday.
During his visit, which will last until Wednesday, Holcomb will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) and other senior government officials as well as Taiwanese semiconductor sector representatives, MOFA said in a press release.
He will also sign a memorandum of understanding with Taiwan to facilitate bilateral business, trade and scientific cooperation, it added.
In 1979, Indiana became the first state to forge a sister-state relationship with Taiwan, according to MOFA.
