
Pilot ejects from Mirage-2000 jet off Taiwan; plane still missing

Taipei, March 14 (CNA) The pilot of a Mirage-2000 fighter jet ejected from the aircraft off eastern Taiwan on Monday morning and is now safe, but the aircraft has not yet been located, according to the Taiwan Air Force.
Just over an hour after the jet took off from Taitung Air Base for routine training, the sole pilot Lieutenant Colonel Huang Chung-kai (黃重凱) reported a mechanic malfunction, and he managed to eject at 11:26 a.m., the Air Force said.
Huang was picked up at sea off eastern Taiwan at 12:06 p.m. by a UH-60M helicopter, the Air Force said, adding that the pilot was in hospital in stable condition.
The Mirage-2000 jet has not yet been located, the Air Force said, adding that it has set up a task force to investigate the cause of the incident.
