Damascus, August 4, 2025 — The European Union (EU) is providing emergency humanitarian funding of €1.6 million to support people most affected by the recent violence in southern Syria, where intense clashes and airstrikes have led to the forced displacement of close to 192,000 people in the governorates of Sweida, Dar'a and Rural Damascus.
Out of the total humanitarian funding, €1.35 million will be channelled through EU humanitarian partners active in the area. These funds will focus on emergency interventions to provide water, sanitation, hygiene, health and protection services, in addition to distributing core relief items to support the most affected populations.
The remaining €250,000 will contribute to the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent's (IFRC) Disaster Relief Emergency Fund. This will support the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) in providing trauma kits and medical supplies, psychosocial support sessions, fuel for hospitals, supporting medical personnel, as well as drinking water, dignity kits, and food parcels to 225,000 people.
The emergency humanitarian funding, channelled through the European Union Humanitarian Aid, will complement ongoing support provided through humanitarian partners, bringing the EU humanitarian funding to Syria to a total of EUR 204.1 million in 2025.
The European Union remains committed to providing critical aid and support to those affected by the clashes, aiming to alleviate suffering and assist in the recovery of the impacted communities.
