Syrian Gov't, Opposition Unsure When to Meet After Faction Refuses to Take Part
The date of the forthcoming meeting of the Syrian opposition groups has not been agreed on yet, because Qadri Jamil, the leader of the Moscow platform of the opposition, refused to attend the event, High Negotiations Committee (HNC) spokesman Riyad Naasan Agha told Sputnik on Wednesday.
DUBAI (Sputnik) – Earlier in the month, members of the HNC said that Riyadh would gather the representatives of other opposition movements on August 15. At the same time, on Monday, Naasan Agha told Sputnik that the date of the meeting has not been determined yet.
"The date [of the meeting] has not been approved yet, because Qadri Jamil has refused to go to Riyadh," the spokesman said, commenting the reports about the date of the meeting.
The Syrian opposition taking part in Geneva settlement talks is not homogeneous as there are a number of platforms uniting different opposition groups with various views on several aspects of the country's future. The platforms are mostly named after the places where they had been established, such as the Cairo and the Moscow groups. HNC was formed in Riyadh.
