Shamkhani dismisses US' "vain" claims on Syria
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, June 28, IRNA -- Secretary General of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani dismissed the US' "vain" claims that Damascus intended to use chemical weapons, noting that the allegations are in line with confronting decisive advancement of the Syrian army.
Shamkhani said, "The US' unwise behavior in Syria is an outstanding example of playing with fire."
He said re-statement of futile allegations against Syria is in line with the US scenario to cover up constant failures of terrorism front and confront Syrian army's decisive advances.
The leadership envoy referred to the need for the OPCW to probe into the US claims and said, "If the US administration is true with its claims, it should put related information at the disposal of the OPCW inspectors so as to be impartially verified through cooperation with the Syrian government."
While recalling the US' illegal invasion on Syrian territory and targeting Shairat air base under the pretext of the country's using chemical arms, Shamkhani said Iran and Russia after the event had officially called for dispatch of an international fact-finding team to investigate the claims raised by the US, but Washington blocked such action to prevent disclosure of false claims raised against Syria by the US.
He warned against consequences of unilateral measures by the US and violation of international laws and Syria's national sovereignty, and said, 'Undoubtedly, the US' unwise and adventurist behaviors in Syria are outstanding evidence of playing with the fire and the military scene in the country will reverse the US' unilateral aggression on Syria and avoid facing the retaliatory reactions."
