Fighters of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah and the Syrian army troops have repelled an attack by the ISIL Takfiri terrorist group in the border region of Qalamoun, west of Syria.
Hezbollah's al-Manar TV reported Monday that the Lebanese fighters clashed with ISIL militants as members of the terrorist group were trying to infiltrate Hezbollah posts on the outskirts of the Syrian village of Jarajeer.
The report said that Hezbollah fighters managed to kill a number of militants there while two vehicles belonging to ISIL were captured. Manar said that Syrian helicopters also contributed to the counteroffensive.
In a concurrent operation, Hezbollah fighters launched a missile attack on the positions of ISIL on the outskirts of the Lebanese town of Arsal, west of Qalamoun. A militant vehicle equipped with a 33-mm machine gun was destroyed during the operation, Manar said.
Since early May, Hezbollah fighters and Syrian armed forces have been battling militants operating in Qalamoun, a highly strategic region straddling the Lebanese-Syrian border. During the operation, the allied forces have effectively purged militants of the al-Nusra Front terrorist group from most of the positions they previously held.
Hezbollah has also been involved in a battle against ISIL, mostly on the northern outskirts of Arsal and over the control of Ras Baalbek, a Lebanese Christian border town. Lebanese fighters have also repelled attacks by ISIL on their positions over the past two weeks.
Hezbollah and Syrian forces have retaken most of the areas on the outskirts of Jarajeer, which is located southeast of Arsal. The operation started around two weeks ago when the allied forces recaptured the outskirts of Flita, a town located in the Syrian territory, south of Jarajeer.
