Palestinians battling the ISIL Takfiri terrorists have made new advances against the militants in the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmouk south of the Syrian capital, Damascus.

The head of the Damascus-based Palestinian Popular Struggle Front, Khaled Abdul Majid, said on Wednesday that Palestinian factions that are engaged in battle against ISIL have forced the terrorists to retreat from some positions in the camp.

Sami Hamzawi, a Palestinian activist, said members of the Aknaf Beit al-Maqdis group, a Palestinian faction affiliated to the resistance movement of Hamas, have captured several buildings and are currently advancing from the northeastern parts of the camp.

On Tuesday, Abdul Majid said ISIL was mostly confined to the camp's southwest, while Palestinians were in control of most of the eastern and northern areas.

Last week, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) warned about the growing humanitarian needs in Yarmouk and requested permission for "the immediate and unimpeded passage" of relief aid and departure of civilians from the site.

ISIL, which currently controls parts of Iraq and Syria, launched an attack on Yarmouk on April 1. According to the United Nations, some 18,000 Palestinians, including 3,500 children, are caught in the fighting.
