The Syrian army has made more gains in its campaign against foreign-backed militants in the countryside of the capital Damascus.
Government forces have clashed with militants in the al-Dokhania district, inflicting heavy losses on them.
The area has been under militant control for the past few weeks.
Reports say a number of militants, among them a senior commander, have been killed in the fighting.
A few days ago, Syrian troops recaptured the strategic town of Adra, northeast of Damascus. The army also secured highways as well as an industrial zone on its outskirts.
Syrian Defense Minister Fahd Jassem al-Freij has visited the town, which was captured by the terrorists nearly a year ago.
In recent months, the Syrian army has been liberating a corridor of territory from Damascus to the Mediterranean coast, recapturing towns and villages along the main north-south highway and in the mountainous Qalamoun region along the border with Lebanon.
Syria has been gripped by deadly conflict since 2011. The Western powers and their regional allies -- especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey -- are reportedly supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
More than 191,000 people have so far been killed during more than three years of Takfiri violence in the war-ravaged country, according to reports.
