Ocean 2024 CPX: Bastion coastal defence missile produces electronic launches at naval and surface targets

11.09.2024

In the framework of the Ocean 2024 CPX, sailors of the Baltic sea-base coastal missile formation destroyed a mock enemy warships group and struck critical coastal infrastructure with the use of the Bastion coastal defence missile.

At a training ground of Kaliningrad region coastline, crews of Bastion anti-ship systems produced electronic launches of Oniks anti-ship missiles at the targets simulating warships of the mock enemy in the Baltic Sea.

Mobile launchers conducted a march and deployed in an assigned area with pre-prepared positions. According to the instructions received, the Russian units hit a mock enemy group of ships, which were simulated by the Fleet's warships, performing tasks at sea, and then changed the firing position covertly.

Position data of the new targets was promptly transmitted to the Bastion crews after repositioning.

The units also performed camouflaging and a series of counter-sabotage measures at the combat position while performing launches.

According the training plan of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, formations and units of the Russian Navy started taking part in the Ocean 2024 strategic command post exercise, which will last until 16 September 2024. The exercise, which is one of the most important operational and combat training events of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in 2024, is to be conducted in a bilateral format under the overall command of Admiral Aleksandr Moiseyev, the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy.

More than 400 warships, submarines and support vessels, over 120 naval aircraft, some 7,000 units of weaponry, military and special hardware, and more than 90,000 personnel participate in the drills, which take place in the waters of the Pacific and Arctic oceans, Mediterranean, Caspian, and Baltic seas.

The Ocean 2024 strategic command post exercise is aimed at checking the readiness of the senior staff of the Russian Navy to operate all-arms groups of forces in the areas of responsibility, to solve non-standard operational tasks, to make full use of high-precision weapons, advanced and modern weapons and military hardware in the practical part of the exercise, and to expand cooperation with the navies of partner countries to perform joint maritime missions.
