On September 22, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin took part in the 13th Conference on Facilitating Entry into Force of the CTBT on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the UN General Assembly in New York.
This biennial event is designed to mobilise the efforts of the international community to expand the CTBT and promote its entry into force as a unique arms control and non-proliferation tool banning all types of nuclear tests.
In his address, the Deputy Foreign Minister placed particular emphasis on the Russian Federation's commitment to the CTBT and the voluntary moratorium on nuclear testing.
Sergey Vershinin also stressed that the deadlock around the entry into force of the Treaty was largely created by the United States, which has not ratified the CTBT and also pursues a destructive policy towards it.
The call to ratify the Treaty extended to the other seven countries on which its transformation into a legally binding international legal instrument depends.
