On April 14, 2023, Samarkand (Republic of Uzbekistan) hosted the 6th meeting in the CA5+Russia format. It was attended by Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu, Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev, Foreign Minister of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Acting Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov.

The ministers focused on promising areas of six-lateral cooperation, which reflect the agreements reached at the first Russia-Central Asia summit held in Astana on October 14, 2022. The agreements concern cooperation between Russia and Central Asian countries in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, energy, transport, cultural, humanitarian, migration, healthcare and sanitary-epidemiological areas. After specifying a list of projects and initiatives, relevant ministries and departments of six countries will start their implementation. Progress of work in a multilateral format will be reported to the heads of state and government of Russia and Central Asian states.

The participants of the meeting expressed satisfaction with the interaction of the six countries, which is based on allied relations or strategic partnership. They noted positive dynamics in the main areas of cooperation.

They discussed separately pressing regional and international issues, concentrating on the complicated situation in Afghanistan and its influence on the neighbouring countries.

Sergey Lavrov briefed his colleagues on Moscow's assessments and actions in the context of the Ukraine crisis. He noted the need to improve the performance of Eurasian interstate organisations and associations as venues for non-politicised work on common challenges and threats.

Mr Lavrov explained Russia's approaches to strategic stability and arms control. He emphasised its support for the sovereign foreign policy conducted by the leaders of Central Asian countries. This policy is based on the national priorities of security and development and promotion of multifaceted mutually beneficial cooperation with Russia in these and other vital areas.

The participants agreed to continue regular work in the six-lateral ministerial format.
