On November 15, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia.

During their meeting, they discussed key international issues with a focus on global food security.

The officials also discussed in detail the implementation of the Istanbul agreements on exporting Ukrainian food products from Black Sea ports and resuming exports of Russian agricultural products and fertilisers to global markets. The parties confirmed the importance of ensuring their package nature and equal implementation.

Sergey Lavrov stressed the need for the UN Secretariat to maintain a balanced and unbiased course in line with Article 100 of the UN Charter on the inadmissibility of taking instructions from any government on sensitive global issues, especially in the context of the situation in and around Ukraine. As was underscored, this helps to achieve a lasting resolution of conflict situations and to ensure international peace and security.

The officials analysed current aspects of Russia's engagement with the United Nations and the implementation of specific initiatives to enhance its effectiveness. They reaffirmed their mutual commitment to upholding the central coordinating role of the global Organisation, whose activities should be strictly based on the purposes and principles of its Charter, including sovereign equality and non-interference in the internal affairs of its member states.
