Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's meeting with President of the Libyan Presidential Council Mohamed Yunus al-Menfi

On September 24, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a meeting with President of the Libyan Presidential Council Mohamed Yunus al-Menfi on the sidelines of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly.
The officials held a detailed exchange of views on developments in Libya and pointed out the progress achieved in the Libyan settlement over the past year. They gave a positive assessment to the activities of the central authorities â€“ the Presidential Council and the Government of National Unity â€“ established for the transitional period in the spring of 2021. They also said that the main priority for the interim Libyan leadership is to prepare and hold the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for December 24, 2021.
The officials stated the need for the consolidation of international support for the interim Libyan authorities for the purpose of further promoting the political process with the leading role of the United Nations and in conformity with UN Security Council resolutions 2510 and 2570 and the decisions of the Berlin International Conference on Libya.
Russia reaffirmed the importance of reaching Libyan national consensus on the key points of the national agenda with account taken of the interests of all Libyans for the purpose of preserving the country's unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
