Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's meeting with President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades

On September 24, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Sergey Lavrov and Nicos Anastasiades discussed the current state of and prospects for Russian-Cypriot relations in a variety of areas and highlighted their willingness to further deepen the ongoing political dialogue. They welcomed the resumption of regular flights between the countries and underscored mutual interest in continuing constructive interaction at the UN.
An exchange of views on international and regional issues, with an emphasis on the Cyprus settlement. took place. Mr Lavrov reaffirmed Russia's principled position, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, in favour of achieving a fair, viable and comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem within the existing international legal framework. Support for the UN Secretary-General's efforts to resume the inter-community dialogue with a view to reuniting the island was expressed.
