Long-range high-precision cruise missiles will become the core weaponry for Russian navy by 2025, according to the new state doctrine on naval activities until 2030 posted on the government's legal information website on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to the document, the Russian navy will begin receiving hypersonic missiles and robotic systems for various purposes, including unmanned underwater vehicles, after 2025.

"Long-range high-precision cruise missiles will form the core of armaments for the navy's submarine and surface fleets, as well as for coastal troops by 2025," the text of the doctrine says.

One of the most effective and widely known Russian cruise missiles, Kalibr, was first used in combat by the Russian Caspian Flotilla against Daesh targets in Syria in November 2015.

Kalibr missiles have been repeatedly fired from Russia's Buyan-M-class ships and Varshavyanka-class submarines against Daesh targets in Syria. Since the Kalibr missile has an operational range of up to 2,500 km, the launches were carried out from the Caspian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.
