MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), with an operational range of no less than 5,500 kilometers, is part of the government plan to modernize the country's nuclear forces by 2020.
"An approximate time when [it] will be put into service is 2019-2020," Col. Gen. Sergey Karakayev told reporters.
The experimental constructive work on the new liquid-fueled Sarmat ICBM, which is to replace the Satan, began in 2011.
