RUSSIA LAUNCHES U.S. SATELLITE. A Russian Proton rocket carried an American Panamsat communications satellite into orbit, Interfax reported on 15 May. The Boeing-made satellite is to provide telecommunications links for countries around the Indian Ocean for the next 15 years. VY
