Former Leader Of Pakistan's Largest Islamic Party Escapes Suicide Attack

November 19, 2012

The former leader of Pakistan's largest Islamic party has escaped unhurt after a suicide bomb attack in the Mohmand tribal region.

Pakistani officials say the female bomber detonated explosives on November 19 near the convoy of Qazi Husain Ahmad, the former chief of Jamaat-e Islami Pakistan.

Three of his associates and bodyguards suffered minor injuries.

Only the suicide bomber died in the attack in the northwest of Pakistan.

No group has claimed responsibility.

A Pakistani Taliban leader, Hakimullah Mehsud, has reportedly criticized Jamaat-e Islami Pakistan and singled out Ahmad in a recent audio message, accusing him of supporting Pakistan's U.S.-allied government.
