Islamabad, Feb 21, IRNA -- Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar has said that tabling a resolution on Balochistan in the US congress based on mala fide intention, media reported on Tuesday.
Speaking at a ceremony in London, she said Balochistan was Pakistan’s internal matter and the Balochistan provincial assembly would act to resolve its issues and not the US congressmen.
Earlier Pakistan had summoned US Charge d’ Affaires, Richard Hoagland and a ‘strong protest was lodged’ with him over a resolution submitted to the US House of Representatives on Pakistan's southwestern Balochsitan province.
“Hoagland was told in clear terms that the move in the US Congress was contrary to the spirit of friendly relations and violative of the principles of the United Nations Charter, international law and recognized norms of inter-state conduct,” a Foreign Ministry statement said.
He was asked to convey the serious concern of the Government of Pakistan to the US Administration, the statement said.
Hinna Rabbani Khar said that resolution on Balochistan in the US congress could only aggravate Pakistan’s already estranged relations with US and it would distance the two allies even further.
She said that the bill was contrary to the principles of UN Charter and international law.
The Foreign Minister said that the Bill was also against the very fundamentals of the long-standing Pakistan-US relations.
Hina Rabbani Khar is in Britain for talks with her British counterpart, William Hague, officials said.
She will also hold talks with senior British officials on bilateral matters, focusing the security situation in South Asian region and Afghanistan.
Reports said that the Foreign Minister will seek London’s help in stopping US drone strikes in the Pakistani tribal areas.
The sources said that Ms. Khar is likely to urge Britain, during her three-day visit, to help stop the strikes as these violated Pakistani sovereignty.
