Pakistan concerned at US Congress debate on Balochistan

Islamabad, Feb 10, IRNA -- Pakistan said that it has conveyed its concern to the United States at the Congressional hearing on the situation in Balochistan province.
Participating in the US debate, several lawmakers expressed concern over the situation in Balochistan and demanded the Pakistani government to take steps to improve the situation.
'We have conveyed our concerns and raised this issue with the US authorities both in Washington and Islamabad. We believe Washington fully understands our position. The matter was clarified by the US State Department yesterday,' the Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit said.
'The US State Department understands our position,' the Pakistani spokesman said at a weekly press briefing.
He said Pakistan has always underlined the importance of the principles of non-intervention and non-interference in internal affairs of states, respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, respect for human rights, as well as importance of dialogue and reconciliation for accommodation of legitimate aspirations through peaceful means.
