Pakistani minister says terrorist outfit disturbs Karachi peace
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, Feb 2, IRNA -- Pakistan’s Interior Minister A Rehman Malik has said a terrorist organization is trying to destabilize peace in Karachi, commercial hub of the country.
Target and sectarian killings have again erupted in Karachi, which claimed over a dozen lives this week. Wife and daughter of a provincial lawmaker were shot dead on Monday night.
Talking to reporters in Islamabad, the Interior Minister said that the series of incidents prove that a terrorist organization was trying to attack the people of different schools of thought.
He did not name the group but police said that the banned militant group 'Lashkar-e-Jhangvi' is behind the sectarian violence.
The minister said that one mother from the northern areas of Gilgit Baltistan complained that her son was taken to Karachi for terrorist activities. 'We are investigating into this matter,' he added.
Condemning the killing of the wife and daughter of lawmaker Nawabzada Bakhtiar, he said, a high level committee has been constituted for inquiry that will present report within seven days.
Karachi has also seen series of sectarian killings in recent days.
