Pakistani forces kill 18 militants

Islamabad, Feb 1, IRNA -- Pakistani forces killed 18 militants in Kurram tribal region on Wednesday, state television reported.
According to the PTV, six foreigners were among those killed.
The security agencies are involved in operation against the militants in Kurram agency over the past few weeks and also killed 40 militants on Tuesday.
The army had confirmed killing of 8 soldiers in the yesterday’s fighting. TV channels reported that 32 soldiers were also injured in the fighting.
On Tuesday nearly 100 armed Taliban militants attacked a check post in Jogi area of Kurram agency, which triggered heavy clashes. Both sides exchanged heavy weapons for hours.
Officials said that the area is a stronghold of the militants.
Locals said that Taliban militants have increased their activities in Kurram tribal region, bordering Afghanistan.
Taliban militants from other areas have also arrived in the region and set up hideouts in remote and mountainous areas.
