Militant groups clash leave 25 dead in Pakistan

Islamabad, June 7, IRNA -- Supporters of Taliban and other militant groups clashed in a Pakistani tribal region leaving at least 25 people dead, officials in the region said Sunday.
Clashes started late Saturday night in Khyber agency near the Afghan border between Tehrik-e-Taliban Lashkar-e-Islam.
Several key commanders are among those killed, sources said, adding that eight other people were also injured during violent clashes.
The intermittent firing between the banned groups continued in parts of Tirah valley as the death toll of the deadly skirmishes started last Saturday rose to 25 on Sunday, the political administration sources said.
The clashes erupted when unidentified armed men tried to kidnap Lashkar-e-Islam commander Mani Gul from Zakakhel Tabay on Saturday.
The supporters of LI while trying to foil the kidnapping bid started firing at the gunmen which was retaliated.
During the cross firing, 14 activists of Lashkar-e-Islam and eight militants of Tahrik Taliban were shot-dead while three civilians also died on the spot.
On Sunday, the supporters of Lashkar-e-Islam also obtained control over hideouts of Taliban.
