An al-Qaeda member, wanted by the United States, was killed in Pakistan Bajur tribal region on Thursday after the suspect shot dead a local security man and injured two others, local journalist said.
Abu Marwan al-Suri, a Syrian national, was believed to be killed when U.S missiles struck several houses in Damadola village in Bajur in January.
A local journalist said on phone from Bajur that the al-Qaeda man was killed when he refused to surrender and opened fire on the local militia men, killing one of them and injuring two others.
The suspect was traveling in a car and the militia men on a check post signaled him to stop.
But he refused to surrender and started firing, the correspondent said.
The suspect had to run up-to three kilometers, he said.
It is also thought that he might have shot himself dead to avoid arrest.
Abu Marwan al-Suri was thought to be in-charge of al-Qaeda operations in Waziristan tribal region.
Military spokesman Major General Shaukat Sultan confirmed the death of a foreign national but said that efforts are underway to identify him.
Correspondents said that dead body of the suspect has been sent to Islamabad for identification.
