IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad, April 12, IRNA
Pakistan-Group Warning
A Pakistani religious group, which lost several senior leaders in the Tuesday deadly suicide bomb attack in Karachi, on Wednesday gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the government to apprehend those behind the attack.

The suspected suicide bombing killed 57 and injured some 200 people at a festival held to celebrate the birth anniversary of Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The government should arrest and expose those who were behind the conspiracy to eliminate our central leadership, Muhammad Shahid Ghauri, central leader of the Sunni Tehrik said.

Ghauri told a news conference that 10 of the group leaders were among 57 people killed in the suicide attack at Nishtar Park.

He said the group will register a case against the government of southern Sindh province if those responsible of the blast were not arrested.

The blast conspiracy was aimed at eliminating our leaders, Ghauri said.

He said that a three-member committee has been formed following the killing of many senior leaders.

Ghauri said that leaders of the Tehrik had been receiving life threats and the government had been informed but no action for their safety was taken.

He said that no representative of the federal and provincial government has contacted the group since the blast. He said that funerals of senior leaders will be held on Thursday.

Meanwhile funerals of several killed in the Tuesday's blast were held in different parts of Karachi amid tight security in the city.

A strike called by religious groups against the double suicide bombing that killed 57 people brought life in Karachi to a standstill on Wednesday.

All major markets in Karachi were closed and public transport off the road. Karachi Stock Exchange was also closed.

The provincial government of southern Sindh has already closed all educational institutions in the city.

Tight security measures were in place in the biggest city with the deployment of paramilitary soldiers and extra police force.

The government has announced two different investigations, one by a High Court judge and second by the provincial police chief.
