Pakistan-Musharraf
President General Pervez Musharraf said on Monday that the earthquake provided an opportunity for building further links between the Kashmiris on both sides, and that such opportunity should not be missed.
In a meeting with the Chairman of the UN Foundation Ted Turner, he said Pakistan had conveyed proposals to India in this regard. He expressed the hope that the move would be reciprocated.
The president thanked Turner and the UN Foundation for the assistance provided to the quake-stricken regions as well as their efforts to generate more funds, an official statement said.
President Musharraf also appreciated UN Foundation's active role in controlling Polio and other diseases and thanked Turner for the Foundation's assistance for Pakistan's Polio Eradication Programme.
Turner, for his part, appreciated the policy of the President Musharraf in initiating a peace process with India.
Turner, who had visited the quake-hit areas on Sunday at the head of a 20-member delegation, stated that they all had been extremely impressed by very effective response of the government of Pakistan to the disaster.
