IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, Dec 1, IRNA
Three foreign suspects and two locals were killed in an overnight missile attack in Pakistan's North Waziristan tribal region, a TV report said on Thursday.
But a local journalist in Miransha, headquarters of North Waziristan, said that a three-year-old child and an 18-year-old young man by the name of Abdul Basit were killed in the attack. They were locals.
The private Geo television quoted security officials as claiming the missile was fired on the house of a local tribesman in the town of Mir Ali, 18 kilometers from Miransha, last night, killing three foreigners and two locals.
The attack was carried out on a tip that foreign militants were hiding in the house.
Local journalist said on phone from Miransha that the missile hit the house of one local tribesman -- Karamat Khan.
Officials have said that foreign suspects are hiding in the North Waziristan tribal region.
Tribesmen dispute the government claim and say they are not sheltering foreigners, many of who are believed to have fled to Afghanistan.
Some 35 local clerics and tribesmen were handed to authorities of the tribal jirga or council on Monday in North Waziristan. They were wanted by the government for their alleged links with militants.
Authorities claim that local militants are sheltering foreign suspects but the locals counter by saying the authorities sometimes target them under the excuse of apprehending foreigners.
