Larijani: Iran backs democratic process in Iraq

Tehran, Oct 30, IRNA -- Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Sunday that Iran supports the democratic process in Iraq.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Chief of Iraqi Kurdistan Region Administration Masoud Barzani and accompanying delegation.

“Iran wishes to see a secure, recovered and democratic Iraq, hence it will do its best to help and support Iraqi nation and government,' Larijani said.

He expressed pleasure with the development process in Iraq in various fields.

He reiterated that Iran’s merits and vast capabilities in different fields of technology, economy, politics can create many opportunities for Iraq development and growth and establishing and strengthening peace and stability there as well.

Majlis speaker weighted the parliamentary cooperation as vital in this respect.

Barzani described his meetings with Iranian officials as fruitful and constructive and called for regular consultation and coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran over common concerns.

Barzani said that Iran’s security is tantamount to that of Iraqi Kurdistan Region Administration, adding that Iran’s relations with Iraqi Kurdistan Region Administration are excellent, consolidated and progressive.

The chief of Iraqi Kurdistan Region Administration expressed satisfaction over the current security prevailing along Iranian border with Iraqi Kurdistan and said “for my administration consolidating the security is of great importance.'
