Panetta’s comments on Iraq indicative of US desparation: Vahidi

Tehran, Oct 30, IRNA - Minister of Defense Ahmad Vahidi said Sunday that the recent statements made by US Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta on Iraq was an effort to cover Washington’s desperation and its failure in that country.
Reacting to Panetta’s latest comments, the minister said, “Occupiers of Iraq who were obliged to leave that country based on the will of the Iraqi people, are trying to conceal US desperation and its failure with an arrogance gesture.”
“Occupiers of Iraq whose hands are tainted to the blood of innocent people of that country are to damage the long-term and deep relations between Iran and Iraq,” said the minister.
Vahidi referred to Iran and Iraq as two nations “with un-healed wounds made by the suppressions of their former dictators (Mohammad-Reza Pahlavi of Iran and Saddam Hussein of Iraq.)”
“Such interfering statements indicate US deep fear from unity among Muslim nations,” Vahidi said.
He added that Panetta’s statement about staying in Iraq of the occupying forces were, on one hand, indicative of a hegemonic spirit as well as interfering in the internal affairs of free nations, and, on the other hand, it showed the deep concerns of US officials from the mounting collapse of capitalism and the US power.
