Iraqi Police Fire On Protesters, At Least Three Wounded
February 04, 2011
At least three Iraqis were wounded when police opened fire to disperse angry residents calling for better services near the southern city of Al-Diwaniyah.
Hundreds of demonstrators had closed off the main road running through the town of Al-Hamza, protesting against shortages of power, water, and other services.
Witnesses said police opened fire after the crowd threw stones at them.
Dozens of people also demonstrated over lack of services in Baghdad's Al-Husayniyah district on January 31.
