- Iraqi Shi'ites Caution Government about Renewing Ties with Iran VOA 16 Jul 2005 -- Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari and seven government ministers are beginning a historic visit to Iran. It is Iraq's first high-level delegation to Tehran since the two countries fought a bitter war in the 1980s, which killed at least one-million people.
