- FALLUJAH BATTLE VOA 10 Nov 2004 -- Reports from the Iraqi city of Fallujah say U.S. led forces have now fought their way through at least half the city, seizing more territory and locating some of the hideouts used by terrorists to capture and kill foreign hostages. On the third day of the ground assault, the American general leading marines told reporters an unspecified number of rebels have been killed or captured while continuing to characterize coalition and Iraqi casualties as light.

The combined Iraqi and multinational force operation had encountered light resistance along the way into the heart of the city, running into small pockets of fighters as they made their way through the restive town.

- IRAQ: Railway reconstruction vital for economic development IRIN 10 Nov 2004 -- A huge restoration project to get Iraq's neglected railways running again is underway, with work starting on three main rail stations in the northern city of Mosul, Baghdad and the southern city of Basra, the Ministry of Transport (MoT) told IRIN in the capital.

- Iraq: Kidnapping Of Allawi's Relatives Apparently Aimed At Halting Al-Fallujah Attack RFE/RL 10 Nov 2004 -- A key member of Iraqi interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi's party says the kidnapping of Allawi's relatives in Baghdad yesterday is a clear political attack and apparently is aimed at forcing a halt to the U.S.-led offensive in Al-Fallujah. A group claiming to hold the three hostages says it will kill them in 48 hours unless Allawi orders an end to the Al-Fallujah offensive and the release of prisoners. U.S. troops today were continuing to fight street-by-street for control of Al-Fallujah. By midday, Iraqi government troops fighting alongside the Americans had raised the Iraqi flag over a police station in the city center. U.S. military officials say they have moved into 70 percent of Al-Fallujah and expect to flush out the remaining insurgents in the next two days. Correspondents embedded with troops in the urban battle report that resistance by snipers and small squads of insurgent fighters remains stiff.

- IRAQ: Medical needs massive in Fallujah - Red Crescent IRIN 10 Nov 2004 -- Twenty doctors along with dozen of Iraqis were killed by a US air strike on a government clinic on Tuesday in the centre of Fallujah, 60 km west of Baghdad according to Dr Sami al-Jumaili, who survived the strike.
