- IRAQ SITREP VOA 12 Oct 2004 -- In Iraq, U.S. and Iraqi forces have stepped up their military operations in areas of the country under the control of Sunni rebels. Ahead of elections set for January, Iraqi and coalition forces are attempting to restore government control over as much of the country as possible.
- IRAQ / SADR CITY VOA 12 Oct 2004 -- Police stations in the Baghdad neighborhood of Sadr City are overwhelmed with huge crowds of Mehdi army members showing up to hand over their weapons. It is part of a deal to bring peace to the impoverished community that has been wracked with violence and fighting for several weeks.

- U.S. To Investigate Report On Iraqi Nuclear Material RFE/RL 12 Oct 2004 -- A U.S. diplomat today said the United States will investigate a report by the UN nuclear watchdog agency that equipment and material that could be used to make nuclear bombs has disappeared from Iraq.

- UN watchdog concerned by disappearance of nuclear material from Iraq UN News Centre 12 Oct 2004 -- Satellite images show equipment and materials that could be used to make nuclear weapons have disappeared from Iraq, the United Nations atomic watchdog agency has warned, and it has called on countries to provide information concerning their whereabouts.
- Analysis: IAEA Concerned Over Dismantlement Of Former Iraqi Nuclear Sites RFE/RL 12 Oct 2004 -- Muhammad el-Baradei, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), sent a letter to the current UN Security Council President Sir Emyr Jones Parry last week expressing concern about the whereabouts of equipment from dismantled sites that formerly housed the Iraqi nuclear program, as well as other sites monitored by the United Nations Monitoring, Verification, and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) and the IAEA.

- POLICE TRAINERS FACILITATE IRAQI EQUIPMENT EXCHANGE EFFORT CENTCOM 12 Oct 2004 -- A shipment of standard-issue police gear was distributed in the past week to Iraqi Police Service officers in Irbil as part of a newly founded police gear exchange program initiated by Multinational Security Transition Command - Iraq police advisors helping the Iraqi government to train, mentor, and equip its police forces.
