- Coalition Official Explains Why Iraq Needs a New Army Washington File 05 Nov 2003 -- As the first battalion of the New Iraqi Army moves to assume its duties and the first units of the Iraqi Civil Defense Corps start operating with U.S. units, it's being argued by some that the creation of these military units is a bad idea, or at least unnecessary -- that the United States could and should have relied on Saddam Hussein's old army and saved itself the trouble of creating a new one. Some even say we should try to do that now by recalling the old army to service some six months after its defeat. It's an argument that doesn't add up.

They complain that the U.S. officials they need to see have isolated themselves inside a former presidential compound in Baghdad and think little about those on the other side of the walls. The situation is making many Iraqis discontented and angry, especially when they are looking for missing loved ones.
- Iraqi Governing Council delegation will travel to Iran, Syria, Turkey IRNA 05 Nov 2003 -- A high-ranking delegation of the Iraqi Governing Council will travel to Iran, Syria and turkey as of November 16, sources close to the council announced here Wednesday.
- UK denies cuts in Iraq spending IRNA 05 Nov 2003 -- Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon denied Wednesday that military spending on Iraq was not being squeezed by budget restraints.

- Iraqi American Helping to Bring Democracy to Baghdad Washington File 05 Nov 2003 -- Neighborhood by neighborhood, Ban Saraf is helping to bring democracy to Iraq.
