US Policy

  • Iraq: Analysts Say Iraqi Crisis Shows U.S. Can't Always 'Go It Alone' RFE/RL 05 Sept 2003-- The Bush administration, often accused of "going it alone" in foreign affairs, has now turned to the United Nations for help in Iraq after months of disparaging the world body. • UN: Powell Seen As Author Of U.S. Iraq Initiative RFE/RL 05 Sept 2003-- A U.S. proposal for a new UN Security Council resolution on Iraq runs counter to long-standing American insistence that it needs only marginal UN involvement in that country. The draft resolution being circulated at the Security Council is seen by experts as having the fingerprints of Secretary of State Colin Powell.

News Reports

  • Iraq: U.S. Occupation May Shift Sunni-Shi'a Balance Of Power In Middle East RFE/RL 05 Sept 2003-- The U.S. occupation of Iraq did more than remove Saddam Hussein from power.
