Khatami hopes for speedy end to Iraq`s occupation

Tehran, Sept 5, IRNA -- President Mohammad Khatami Thursday hoped for a speedy end to Iraq`s occupation and installation of a broad-based government in the country free from any ethnic differences. Khatami in a phone conversation with Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani further hoped for adoption of firm and united stances by Muslim states at the upcoming meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in Malaysia thus paving the ground for restoration of calm in the region and the world of Islam and defense of the rights of regional people and Muslims. Khatami congratulated al-Thani on Qatari national day. Al-Thani for his part expressed hope that Iraq would move towards peace and progress with installation of a broad-based government there. 216/216 End
