- 94th Engineer Battalion clears path for security at CPA Army News Service 15 Aug 2003-- Soldiers from the Vilseck, Germany-based, 94th Engineer Battalion are kicking up 20-foot clouds of dust to make the Coalition Provisional Authority's headquarters more secure.
- Civil affairs soldiers provide home for displaced Iraqis Army News Service 15 Aug 2003-- In a dusty corner of east Baghdad, there is a community of families living in an old Iraqi military complex. The buildings in the compound are less like family housing and more like warehouses and offices. Since coalition forces entered the city, soldiers have found that there are thousands of squatters living in abandoned government buildings.
- EDITORIAL: IRAQIS TASTE LIBERTY VOA 15 Aug 2003 -- Ayad Najim, a former sergeant in the Iraqi Army, recently returned to Iraq after twelve years of self-imposed exile. As the New York Times newspaper reported, when Mr. Najim returned to his home town of Basra, he was greeted by his relatives with a song. "Saddam is gone," they sang. - Iraq: Security Council 'Welcomes' Governing Council As Step Toward Sovereignty RFE/RL 15 Aug 2003 -- The UN Security Council has approved a resolution welcoming the emergence of the U.S.-appointed Iraqi Governing Council. Some Security Council members expressed regret that the resolution did not establish a timeline for ending the U.S.-led occupation of Iraq. But a majority of members said the Governing Council marked a move in the right direction, toward restoring Iraqi sovereignty. The resolution also established a new UN mission in Iraq that is expected to gain a larger political role and potentially broaden contributions to Iraq's reconstruction.

- CPA in Iraq Seeks to Disrupt Smuggling in Southern Iraq Washington File 15 Aug 2003 -- Coalition forces in Iraq are targeting smuggling groups in southern Iraq, hoping to disrupt their trade in oil and copper, said U.S. Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez at the August 14 Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) Operational Briefing.
