Reconstruction Issues
- IRAQ/RECONSTRUCTION VOA 07 Aug 2003 -- The U-S reconstruction effort in Iraq has come under heavy criticism for the slow pace and perceived lack of cohesion. Several assessment missions have reviewed the situation three months after Saddam Hussein's ouster to see what progress has been made and recommend areas where the operation could be improved. The analysts who participated in the fact-finding trips warn the window of opportunity is quickly closing for winning the full support and confidence of the Iraqi people.

- RUSSIA/ IRAQ VOA 07 Aug 2003 -- Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov has renewed Moscow's push for a new U-N Security Council resolution on Iraq. His call for passage came during talks in Moscow with U-S Assistant Secretary of State William Burns. Mr. Ivanov says the resolution would lend legitimacy to the U-S-appointed Governing Council.
- IRAQ/ARAB TROOPS VOA 07 Aug 2003 -- A U-S request for Arab states to send peacekeepers to Iraq is being rejected throughout the Arab world. Arab governments do not want to lend support to the U-S-led coalition in Iraq.
