- EUROPE / IRAQ VOA 22 Nov 2002 -- The European Union commissioner for external relations, Chris Patten, says the world community must act, if Iraq defies a United Nations disarmament resolution. Mr. Patten says the U-N's authority is at stake in the showdown with Iraq
- COALITION FORCES STRIKE IRAQI UNMANNED COMMUNICATIONS FACILITIES 22 Nov 2002-- In response to Iraqi hostile acts against Coalition aircraft monitoring the Southern No-Fly Zone, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons today to target unmanned communications facilities located south of Al Amarah. Al Amarah is approximately 165 miles southeast of Baghdad. The strike occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. EST.
- Powell Says NATO Resolution Shows Support for U.N. on Iraq Washington File 22 Nov 2002-- U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell says the NATO resolution that
calls for Iraq's compliance with the terms of a U.N. resolution to
disarm sends a strong message to the Baghdad regime that the power of
the growing military alliance stands with the United Nations.
- Powell Says U.S. Focused on al-Qaida as Well as Iraq Washington File 22 Nov 2002-- The United States is continuing to pursue al-Qaida, even while it
keeps pressure on Iraq to get rid of its weapons of mass destruction,
said Secretary of State Colin Powell on November 21.
- U.S., Russia Call on Iraq to Cooperate or Face Consequences Washington File 22 Nov 2002-- We have expressed our serious concern about the proliferation of
weapons of mass destruction. In this context, we pledge our full
support for the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1441.
We call on Iraq to comply fully and immediately with this and all
relevant UN Security Council Resolutions, which were adopted as a
necessary step to secure international peace and security.
