- Iraq Update VOA 20 Sept 2002-- President Bush asked the United States Congress Thursday for power to do whatever he considers necessary against Iraq. The President sent Congress his version of a proposed resolution on Iraq. He asked the lawmakers to act before they prepare for congressional elections in November.

- BUSH / RUSSIA VOA 20 Sept 2002-- President Bush continued to make his case for international action against Iraq Friday in meetings with the Russian foreign and defense ministers
- RUSSIA / IRAQ VOA 20 Sept 2002-- This week, Baghdad surprised the world community by telling the United Nations it would agree to the unconditional return of weapons inspectors to Iraq. The news was welcomed by Russia but was dismissed by U-S President George Bush, who described the Iraqi announcement as a ploy. This is not the first time Russia and the United States have found themselves on opposite sides on the issue of Iraq
- Powell Says U.S., Russia, Open to Each Other's Arguments on Iraq Washington File 20 Sept 2002-- The United States and Russia are open to hearing each other's
arguments on Iraq, Secretary of State Colin Powell told journalists
after meeting with Russian Minister of Defense Sergey Ivanov, Russian
Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld at
the State Department September 20.
- House Democrats Submit Resolution Urging U.S. to Work With UN on Iraq Washington File 20 Sept 2002-- Representative Barbara Lee (Democrat of California) submitted a
resolution to the House of Representatives September 19 that calls on
the United States to use inspections, mediation, and "peaceful means"
to deal with Iraq.

- Powell Calls for U.N. Resolution to Compel Iraqi Compliance AFPS 20 Sept 2002-- Secretary of State Colin Powell said the proposed U.N. resolution on Iraq must spell out consequences for Saddam Hussein's regime if the country does not comply.
- IRAQ'S INSPECTIONS GAMBIT: THE VIEW FROM NATO EUROPE Foreign Media Reactions 20 Sept 2002-- Many observers viewed Saddam's offer to re-admit inspectors "unconditionally" skeptically, seeing it as a tactical ploy designed to buy time and divide the UNSC. / Still, while urging caution, most argued that a new round of inspections backed by a new UNSC resolution had to be given a chance, if only to call Saddam's bluff. / Some writers voiced the suspicion that the U.S. will undermine the inspections offer because it remains intent on starting a war with Iraq.
