  • COALITION FORCES STRIKE MILITARY RADAR August 30, 2001 -- In response to recent Iraqi hostile threats against Coalition aircraft monitoring the Southern No-Fly Zone, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons today to strike a military radar in southern Iraq at approximately 1:30 p.m. EDT.
  • IRAQI OPPOSITION VOA 8/30/01 -- Exiled Iraqi opposition leaders are set to begin (EDS: start date is expected to be Saturday, please say "have begun" when broadcasts start) transmitting television programs into Iraq from London. Funded by the U-S Congress, the broadcasts are part of an effort to undermine Saddam Hussein, who continues to maintain a firm grip on the impoverished country.
  • COALITION FORCES STRIKE COMMAND AND CONTROL SITES August 28, 2001 -- In response to recent Iraqi hostile threats against Coalition aircraft monitoring the Southern No-Fly Zone, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons today to strike Command and Control sites in southern Iraq at approximately 2 p.m. EDT.
  • U-S/IRAQ VOA 08/28/01 -- U-S and British fighter jets have again attacked targets in Iraq, a day after Baghdad claimed to have shot down an unmanned U-S reconnaissance plane.
  • ONW aircraft fired upon, coalition responds Aug 27, 2001 -- Iraqi forces threatened Operation Northern Watch (ONW) coalition aircraft today. Iraqi forces fired anti-aircraft artillery (AAA) from sites north of Mosul while ONW aircraft conducted routine enforcement of the Northern No-Fly Zone.

  • IRAQ/AIR CHALLENGES VOA 08/27/01 -- The Pentagon says Iraq may have shot down an unmanned U-S reconnaissance plane Monday, flying over a southern part of the country. Several times this month, U-S and British jets have attacked Iraqi defense sites in response to what Pentagon officials say have been increasing attempts by Baghdad to bring down an allied fighter jet.   • ONW Aircraft fired upon and targeted by radar Aug 17, 2001 -- Iraqi forces threatened Operation Northern Watch (ONW) coalition aircraft today by firing anti-aircraft artillery (AAA) from sites north of Mosul. Coalition aircraft were also targeted by Iraqi radar while conducting routine enforcement of the Northern No-Fly Zone.
