Iran's representatives in Saudi Arabia start their primary activities: Kanaani

Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani announced that Iran's three representatives in Saudi Arabia such as the country's embassy in Riyadh, Consulate General in Jeddah and Permanent Representative of Iran in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah have started their primary activities in the kingdom.

Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Kanaani said, "We hope to witness the full activation of the embassies of both countries in Iran and Saudi Arabia within the designated time frame".

Elsewhere in his remarks, Kanaani noted, "The development of relations between the Persian Gulf littoral states is the most important factor in achieving common security in the region".

Commemorating the National Persian Gulf Day, Kanaani stated, "The Persian Gulf is not only a geographical area but also a part of the shaired historical and cultural identity of the region".

In response to a question regarding Iran's water rights in Helmand, the spokesman said, "We have not neglected pursuing Iran's water rights from Helmand, and a significant part of Iran's water diplomacy includes this issue".

He stressed, "We do not and will not compromise on defending our national interests and the rights of our citizens when they come under attack".

The spokesperson also emphasized that Iran will participate in the Doha meeting on Afghanistan, which is being held at the initiative of the United Nations, and Hassan Kazemi Qomi, the special representative of Iranian president for Afghanistan's affairs, is heading the Iranian delegation in this meeting.

Emphasizing that President Raisi's trip to Syria is imminent and necessary planning has been made in this regard, Kanaani said, "Other trips have also been planned for him based on invitations from some country leaders, which will be announced in due time".

Speaking about the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) talks, he said, "The path of diplomacy is still open and the exchange of messages between the parties continues.Iran is ready to conclude negotiations by observing its red lines. The negotiation path will not be open forever".
