Damavand destroyer to be equipped with vertical-launch missiles

Tehran (ISNA) – Iran's Damavand destroyer will be equipped with vertical-launch missiles and join Iran's Navy this year, Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi said.
On the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the depth competitions of the 2019 International Army Games in Kish Island, Iran, Commander of Iran's Navy, Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi said, "Damavand destroyer will rejoin Iran's Navy northern fleet this year".
"The destroyer is fully revived and the process has been done in 18 months," the commander said, adding that all defects of the destroyer have been fixed.
According to Khanzadi, the destroyer has been equipped with advanced radar systems which allow it to reach distant targets.
"The destroyer is now equipped with new weapons and we are planning to equip it with vertical-launch missiles," he added.
The commander said, the process is also underway in Iran Navy's southern fleet and Dena destroyer along with a guided missile destroyer and a new minesweeper equipped with new minesweeping equipment will join the fleet this year.
