Tehran (ISNA) – On the third day of the massive three-day drill, codenamed "Velayat 97", a Qadir-class submarine has successfully launched a cruise missile.

Iranian naval forces on Friday started the "Velayat 97" drill in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

On the third day of the naval drill, the Qadir-class submarine has successfully fired an anti-surface cruise missile.

It was the first time the missile was being fired at a mock target from the depth of the sea.

The launch of the cruise missile cannot be detected by enemy forces whereas there is likelihood for the launcher submarines to be detected when firing torpedoes, which also have a comparatively shorter range, according to Press TV.

Other submarines, such as Tareq and Fateh, also have the capability to launch the cruise missile.
