Tehran, March 30, IRNA -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Wednesday backed peaceful settlement of international disputes, saying that safeguarding national sovereignty of the governments needs defense power.
The Supreme leader made the remarks in a meeting with religious eulogists.
The Supreme Leader ruled out the assertion that there is no need to defense power to safeguard the international peace and security and that negotiations are the only ways to ensure national sovereignty of the governments.
In the contemporary era which is very complicated,' We should employ all political, economic, social and defense means to bolster Iran's status,' said the Supreme Leader.
Global arrogance is fully dependent on political, economic, cultural and military bullying and spares no efforts to strike a blow to the Islamic republic and Iranian nation which should not be ignored, Ayatollah Khamenei said.
'The enemies employ dialogue, trade sanctions, military threats or any other means to attain their goals and we in part should enhance our defense capabilities in all sectors, said the Supreme Leader.
In this jungle-like world, if Iran only pursues negotiations, trade and even technology know-how in absence of enhancing defense might, the small countries dare to pose threat on us, the Supreme Leader said.
Criticizing those who mainly regard the contemporary world as era of negotiations and not missile, the Supreme Leader said this is the era of everything, otherwise, they will easily and blatantly violate the legitimate rights of Iranian nation.
Demonstration of advanced and high precision missiles is the source of pride for all nation who stood up to defend themselves vis-a-vis the threats posed by the US and the Zionists regime, Ayatollah Khamenei said.
'The enemies constantly bolster their military and missile might and under such circumstances how we can dare to say that the era of missile is over?' questioned the Supreme Leader.
These words are like the ones uttered by some members of provisional government on early days of the Islamic Revolution who were saying that we should give back the F-14 fighters purchased from the US as they are useless, Ayatollah Khamenei said.
'In that time we resisted to such assertions and unveiled realities and after a while when Saddam attacked Iran, it became evident that the country was in dire need of defense apparatus,' the Supreme Leader said.
You should not publicize in a way that you are against dialogue but we should negotiate powerfully and with vigilance to avoid being cheated in negotiations, the Supreme Leader said.
